Under similar pressures, Paris-based FCI in 2001 posted less than $900 million in revenue from its electronics business, down from $1.56 billion in 2000.

Like its competitors, the third-largest connector maker has a broad lineup and a global focus. The company almost doubled its capacity with the 1998 acquisition of Berg Electronics, which followed earlier buyouts, including Burndy Corp. and Nortel Connectors.

Under the direction of its new chairman and chief executive, Jean-Lucien Lamy, FCI recently reorganized its product marketing and sales into five divisions, each representing different markets.

We're trying to be more focused,” said Bob Pokrzywa, vice president of global marketing at FCI's CDC Division in Etters, Pa. The new structure will more closely tie in research and development to sales and marketing for different sectors and speed our response to customers. It will also help us initiate a more central supply chain management system that will be implemented at division level.”
